Westminster women advance to semifinals with win over Bethany

Ravazza sets career points scored record

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Senior Julia Ravazza (Twain Harte, Calif., Dublin) established a new program record in career points scored in Westminster's 19-2 victory over Bethany in the quarterfinal round of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament Tuesday evening at the UPMC Sports Complex. 

Westminster, the No. 4 seed, improved to 10-7 with the win. Bethany, the No. 5 seed, wrapped up its season 8-9. 

Ravazza finished with eight points on four goals and four assists. It was her fourth game this season totaling eight points. She added three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Ravazza's goal with 2:20 remaining in the first quarter set the new program standard for career points scored with 198, surpassing current head coach Bria Braddock's previous program high of 197. 

Senior Haley Wenzel (Coppell, Texas, Coppell) had five points on on two goals and three assists. Graduate student Felicia Young (Darlington, Pa., Blackhawk) scored four goals and added three ground balls, five draw controls and two caused turnovers. Senior Chloe Courinos (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk) finished with two goals, two assists and four ground balls. 

Senior Isabella Cespedes (Merrick, N.Y., Sanford H. Calhoun) totaled four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Freshman Mady Warner (Concord Township, Ohio, Riverside) finished with three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers while junior Emma Baldwin (Seven Fields, Pa., North Catholic) added three ground balls. 

Junior Falyn Snyder (Bel Air, Md., Bel Air) totaled nine saves and four ground balls. 

Westminster jumped out a 6-0 lead after one quarter and carried a 10-2 lead into halftime. Ravazza, Courinos and Young had two goals apiece in the first half. The Titans outscored the Bison 9-0 in the second half. 

Westminster finished with a 39-18 advantage in shots, racking up 26 shots on goal to Bethany's seven. Tuesday's 21 clears were a season high. 

Up next:
Westminster will travel to No. 1 Grove City (14-3) Thursday. The championship tournament semifinal is scheduled to get underway at 7 p.m. at Don Lyle Field.
