Piper claims PAC weekly award

TRAFFORD, Pa.--Westminster sophomore Cheyenne Piper (Latrobe, Pa., Ligonier Valley) claimed Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Softball weekly honors Monday afternoon.

Piper was named PAC Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season. She was a three-time PAC Pitcher of the Week last spring.

Piper went 3-0 with a pair complete games and a 0.00 ERA last week. She struck out 27 batters without issuing a walk in her combined 15.1 innings of work. Piper delivered her second-straight one-hitter while striking out 13 in Wednesday's 13-0, five-inning game one victory over Franciscan, retiring the game's first 14 batters--and striking out the first 10--before Elizabeth Maxwell's base hit with two outs in the fifth. Piper won twice on Saturday, firing her league-leading fifth shutout of the year in a 2-0 game one win over Allegheny and she allowed four hits while striking out nine. Piper secured the relief victory in the 7-1 game two win over Allegheny, allowing one hit while fanning five in 3.1 innings.

Piper's 126 strikeouts lead the PAC while her 2.00 ERA ranks fifth in the league.
