Westminster snags non-conference win over La Roche

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster baseball team used a five-run third inning to secure a 10-3 victory over visiting La Roche Wednesday afternoon.

Winners of six of its last eight, Westminster improved to 21-8 with Wednesday's win.

La Roche, trailing 3-1 after two innings, cut the Titans' lead to 3-2 on Alex Perez's RBI groundout in the third after the game was stopped by a 35-minute weather delay. In the next at bat, Liam Burns tied the game at 3-3 with a run-scoring base hit. Westminster batted around in the bottom of the inning, scoring five runs on on five hits. The Titans scratched out two more runs in the seventh on an RBI base hit by junior Conner Adams (Wellsboro, Pa., Wellsboro) and run-scoring triple by sophomore Aaron Jones (Buffalo, N.Y., Canisius)

Senior Jonathan Mollo (Germantown, N.Y., Germantown Central) ran his season record to 3-1 this spring, allowing three runs (3 earned) on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts in 5.0 innings. Sophomore Brandon Roher (Trafford, Pa., Penn-Trafford) backed up Mollo with 2.2 scoreless relief innings.

Jones finished 3-for-3 with a triple, three RBIs and two stolen bases. Junior Braden Zeigler (New Castle, Pa., Shenango) was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored.
