Westminster thumps Thiel

GREENVILLE, Pa.--Sophomore Ethan Kurtz (Hummelstown, Pa., Lower Dauphin) fired in a season-high six goals to lead the Westminster men's lacrosse team to a 27-0 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory at Thiel Wednesday night inside the Rissell-Schreyer Dome. 

Sixteen players scored for Westminster. It was the program's second PAC shutout of the year. 

Wednesday (9-6, 4-3 PAC) was Kurtz's third game with five or more goals this year. Junior Will Albrecht (Wexford, Pa., Pine-Richland) finished with three goals and an assist while senior Kyler Nigliazzo (Montgomery, Texas, Magnolia West) added two goals and two assists. 

Sophomore Jack Steimle (Mount Sinai, N.Y., Mount Sinai) was a perfect 17-of-17 at the faceoff circle and added a career-high 12 ground balls. Junior Dallas Myers (White Plains, Md., Maurice J. McDonough) won 10-of-13 faceoffs. Sophomore Jack Poller (Huntington, N.Y., Harborfields) finished with four ground balls and a caused turnover. Freshman Jeromie Murray (Irwin, Pa., Norwin) had three caused turnovers and two ground balls while senior Shawn Wooles (Hampton, N.H., Winnacunnet) added two ground balls and two caused turnovers. 

Senior Jorden Tate (Cranberry Township, Pa., Seneca Valley) made one save in 24 minutes in net. 

Westminster outshot Thiel 59-7 and finished with a 48-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Titans were successful on all 18 of its clear attempts. 

Up next:
Westminster will host Washington & Jefferson at 4 p.m. Saturday at the UPMC Sports Complex. The program's nine seniors will be recognized before the opening faceoff.
