Westminster rolls to a pair of wins at Saint Vincent

LATROBE, Pa.--The Westminster softball team ran its win streak to eight-straight games Tuesday with its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) sweep of Saint Vincent. The Titans cruised to a 9-0, five-inning win in game one before earning an 8-3 victory in the nightcap. 

Westminster improved to 13-5 overall and 8-0 in league play this season.

Game 1: Westminster 9, Saint Vincent 0 (5 inn.) 
Sophomore Cheyenne Piper (Latrobe, Pa., Ligonier Valley) fired a four-hit shutout to push her record to 7-2 with the game one victory. She struck out three and walked one batter. 

Sophomore Morgan O'Brien (Coraopolis, Pa., Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored. Her first inning double plated junior Faith Jones (Volant, Pa., Wilmington), who led off with a base hit, and sophomore Sam Levac (Oakville, Ontario, Canada, Garth Webb), who singled. 

Freshman Carissa Tekely (Saxonburg, Pa., Knoch) was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. 

Game 2: Westminster 8, Saint Vincent 3
Junior Ava Karpa (Coraopolis, Pa., Moon) went 3-for-4 with an RBI. It was her fourth three-hit game this season. Sophomore Lily Jordan (Rural Valley, Pa., West Shamokin) was 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored. Her three-run homer in the fifth staked Westminster to a 7-0 lead. It was her fourth home run this year. O'Brien went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored. She hit a solo home run in the seventh to push the Titans' lead to six, 8-2. It was her second this season. Freshman Kylie Anthony (Harrison City, Pa., Penn-Trafford) drove in a pair of runs with her third inning triple.

Junior Natalie Davis (Youngstown, Ohio, Boardman) allowed three runs (3 earned) on eight hits with three walks and a pair of strikeouts in the complete game win. She improved to 6-3 with today's victory. 

O'Brien and Jones are both riding 14-game hitting streaks. Jones had a base hit in the third inning to extend her streak. 

Up next:
Westminster is scheduled to travel to Bethany (16-3, 6-2 PAC) Thursday afternoon. First pitch of the PAC doubleheader is slated for 3 p.m.
