Game Recap: Softball |

Westminster wins twice on Sunday

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster softball team ran its win streak to six-straight games with a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) sweep of Hiram on Sunday, earning a 3-1 game one victory before scoring a 3-0 shutout victory in game two.

The games were moved from Saturday to Sunday due to low temperatures.

Westminster is now 11-5 overall and 6-0 in PAC play.

Game 1: Westminster 3, Hiram 1
Sophomore Cheyenne Piper (Latrobe, Pa., Ligonier Valley) improved to 6-2 with the complete-game win, allowing one run (earned) on four hits with nine strikeouts.

Junior Ava Karpa (Coraopolis, Pa., Moon) went 3-for-3 with an RBI. Junior Leah Taliani (Arnold, Pa., Valley) reached base twice. She doubled to lead off the bottom of the third and drew a walk in the sixth.

Sophomore Morgan O'Brien (Coraopolis, Pa., Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) delivered a two-out single before scoring on sophomore Lily Jordan's (Rural Valley, Pa., West Shamokin) double. Karpa's RBI base hit scored Jordan. Hiram cut the lead to 2-1 in the fourth before O'Brien's sacrifice fly plated junior Faith Jones (Volant, Pa., Wilmington), who tripled to lead off the bottom of the fifth. It was Jones' second career triple.

Game 2: Westminster 3, Hiram 0
Junior Natalie Davis (Youngstown, Ohio, Boardman) fired 6.1 scoreless inning to push her season record to 5-3. She allowed eight hits and struck out one batter. Piper threw the final two-thirds of the seventh to secure her second save of the year.
