Westminster falls at home to Grove City

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster women's lacrosse team suffered a 14-10 loss to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Grove City Saturday afternoon at the UPMC Sports Complex. 

Grove City jumped out to a 4-0 lead with just over seven minutes to go in the first period and led 6-2 going into the second. Graduate student Felicia Young (Darlington, Pa., Blackhawk) and senior Haley Wenzel (Coppell, Texas, Coppell) scored back-to-back goals to start the second, cutting the deficit to two, 6-4. The Wolverines netted the final three goals of the period and carried a 9-4 lead into the break. 

Wenzel and Young went back-to-back once again with under three minutes left in the third to pull to within four, 11-7, before senior Julia Ravazza's (Twain Harte, Calif., Dublin) goal with 8:45 to go in the fourth trimmed the Grove City lead to three, 11-8. Young scored her third goal of the game with 7:37 to go to again pull the Titans back to within three, 12-9. She found the back of the net for the fourth time with under two minutes to go, scoring a woman-up goal off a Ravazza assist.

Taylor Blythe led Grove City (8-3, 4-0 PAC) with two goals and five assists. 

Young finished with four goals, two ground balls, two caused turnovers and four draw controls for Westminster (5-4, 2-1 PAC). Wenzel scored three times while Ravazza had one goal, two assists and four draw controls. Sophomore Mikayla Beveridge (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk) finished with three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Freshman Mady Warner (Concord Township, Ohio, Riverside) added two ground balls and two caused turnovers. 

Junior Falyn Snyder (Bel Air, Md., Bel Air) made seven saves.

Westminster hosts Mount Union Tuesday. The opening draw is schedule for 5:30 p.m.
