McClain posts third-place finish in 400 IM

GROVE CITY, Pa.--Westminster junior Maddy McClain (Elizabeth, Pa., Elizabeth Forward) finished in third place in the 400 IM at the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Swimming and Diving Championships Friday night. 

Through 13 events, Westminster is currently in third place with 229 points. Host Grove City leads the nine-team championship field with 575. Saint Vincent is second with 307. 

McClain raced to a third-place time of 4:43.53. Freshman Nina Nappo (Columbiana, Ohio, Columbiana) was seventh in the event, finishing in 5:05.85. 

In the 400 IM, sophomore Avery O'Sullivan (Washington, Pa., Trinity) was ninth, finishing first in the 'B' final with a time of 5:08.54. Freshman Sarah Vitale (Allison Park, Pa., Shaler) was 11th (5:21.23) and freshman Sophia Greene (Cabot, Pa., Knoch) was 12th (5:28.98). 

Freshman Madison Alessio (Elizabeth, Pa., Elizabeth Forward) was ninth in the 100 breaststroke, finishing first in the 'B' final with a time of 1:19.53. Sophomore Emily Yurko (Boardman, Ohio, Boardman) was 12th (1:27.73).

Freshman Brianna Reinhart (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Allegheny) was 10th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:04.10. Junior Annabelle Turner (Butler, Pa., Butler) was 14th (1:05.20), freshman Olivia Schrock (Greensburg, Pa., Hempfield) was 15th (1:09.33) and sophomore Isabella Summers (Hubbard, Ohio, Hubbard) was 16th (1:10.21). 

Freshman Emma Greene (Darlington, Pa., Blackhawk) was 11th in the 200 freestyle (2:10.21). Freshman Rachel Rospierski (Erie, Pa., Fairview) was 11th in the 100 backstroke (1:05.00) while Schrock was 12th (1:05.08) and sophomore Daphne Gindlesperger (McKean, Pa., General McLane) was 15th (1:07.24). 

Westminster's 200 freestyle 'A' relay closed out Friday's evening session with a fourth-place finish (1:45.69). The relay included Nappo, Alessio, Gindlesperger and Rospierski. The 'B' relay, made up of Summers, O'Sullivan, Sophia Greene and Vitale, was 12th (1:51.50). 

Up next:
The championships' last seven events will be decided during Saturday evening's finals, which are scheduled to begin at 5:15 p.m. Preliminaries will get underway at 10 a.m.
