McClain finishes third in 500 freestyle

GROVE CITY, Pa.--Westminster junior Maddy McClain (Elizabeth, Pa., Elizabeth Forward) swam to a third-place finish in the 500 freestyle at the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Swimming and Diving Championships Thursday night. 

The No. 1 seed in the 500, McClain registered a time of 5:17.48 in championship final. She posted the top time (5:15.48) in Thursday's preliminaries. McClain also finished third in the event in 2024 and 2025. 

Freshman Brianna Reinhart (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Allegheny) was eighth in the championship final of the 200 IM, posting a time of 2:20.57. 

In the 500, junior Annabelle Turner (Butler, Pa., Butler) was 10th, finishing second in the 'B' final with a time of 5:34.95, taking nearly eight seconds off her initial season-best time. Freshman Sarah Vitale (Allison Park, Pa., Shaler) was 14th (5:52.02) and sophomore Isabella Summers (Hubbard, Ohio, Hubbard) was 16th (6:04.01). 

In the 200 IM, freshman Nina Nappo (Columbiana, Ohio, Columbiana) was ninth, finishing first in the 'B' final with a time of 2:21.54. Sophomore Avery O'Sullivan (Washington, Pa., Trinity) was 14th (2:30.16) and freshman Sophia Greene (Cabot, Pa., Knoch) was 16th (2:34.92).

Freshman Rachel Rospierski (Erie, Pa., Fairview) was ninth in the 50 freestyle, finishing first in the 'B' final with a time of 25.92. 

Westminster's 400 medley 'A' relay, made up of freshman Olivia Schrock (Greensburg, Pa., Hempfield), Nappo, McClain and Rospierski, finished seventh with a time of 4:21.91. The 'B' relay was 10th (4:33.90). The 'B' relay included O'Sullivan, freshman Madison Alessio (Elizabeth, Pa., Elizabeth Forward), Turner and sophomore Daphne Gindlesperger (McKean, Pa., General McLane).

Through eight events, Westminster is currently in third place with 184 points. Host Grove City leads the eight-team field with 434. Saint Vincent is second with 238. 

Up next:
Seven events will be decided during Friday evening's finals, which are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. Preliminaries will get underway at 10 a.m.
