Westminster women finish second in 800 free relay

Titans third after opening night of PAC Championships

GROVE CITY, Pa.--Westminster's women's swimming and diving program sits in third place after Wednesday's opening session of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships, keyed by a second-place finish in the 800 freestyle relay. 

The four-day event is being held at Grove City's James E. Longnecker Competition Pool. Westminster finished with 86 points on the opening night. Grove City leads the seven-team championship with 116 points. Saint Vincent is in second place (92). 

The Titans posted a time of 8:17.82 in the 800 relay, improving by nearly 16 seconds on their previous season-best swim. Members of the 'A' relay included freshman Brianna Reinhart (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Allegheny), junior Annabelle Turner (Butler, Pa., Butler), freshman Nina Nappo (Columbiana, Ohio, Columbiana) and junior Maddy McClain (Elizabeth, Pa., Elizabeth Forward). The 'B' relay, made up of sophomore Daphne Gindlesperger (McKean, Pa., General McLane), freshman Emma Greene (Darlington, Pa., Blackhawk), sophomore Isabella Summers (Hubbard, Ohio, Hubbard) and freshman Sarah Vitale (Allison Park, Pa., Shaler), finished 10th (8:53.06). 

Westminster opened the night with a fifth-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:58.06). Relay members were freshman Rachel Rospierski (Erie, Pa., Fairview), freshman Madison Alessio (Elizabeth, Pa., Elizabeth Forward), Reinhart and McClain. The 'B' relay finished 12th (2:03.28). Relay members were freshman Olivia Schrock (Greensburg, Pa., Hempfield), Vitale, junior Annabelle Turner (Butler, Pa., Butler) and Summers. 

Up next:
Six events will be decided during Thursday evening's finals, which are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. Preliminaries get underway at 10 a.m.
