Westminster gets past Grove City in overtime

Harrell scores 36 in win

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Graduate student DJ Harrell (Cleveland, Ohio, East Technical) poured in a season-high 36 points to help lead Westminster to an 88-82 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) overtime victory over Grove City Wednesday night at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.

Harrell shot an efficient 15-of-21 from the field and went 5-of-8 from the free throw line. He added three rebounds and eight assists. Wednesday was Harrell's third 30-point game this season. Senior Drew Weir (Salem, Ohio, Salem) finished with 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting, which included going 3-of-4 from three-point range. It was his fifth game scoring 20 or more points this year. Senior Trey DePietro (Boardman, Ohio, Boardman) added nine points, six rebounds and four assists.

Mike Christenson led Grove City (10-14, 7-8 PAC) with 31 points. He added seven rebounds, six assists and four steals. Kyle Randle finished with 17 points.

Westminster led by six, 41-35, at the break. Harrell and Weir scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, in the first half.

Randle buried a three-pointer with 14 seconds left in regulation to give Grove City a 74-72 lead. Harrell's layup with six seconds remaining tied the game at 74-all and forced overtime. Harrell had 17 in the second half.

Trailing by four, 82-78, three minutes into overtime, Westminster rattled off 10-straight points to close out the game and secure the six-point league win. DePietro scored five of the Titans' final 10 points, including a traditional three-point play with just over a minute remaining.

Westminster shot 48.6 percent (34-70) from the floor and finished with a 36-34 edge on the glass.
