Grexa drills game-winner to seal 67-65 win over Bethany

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Sophomore Katie Grexa (Hartford, Ohio, Badger) knocked down a fadeaway jumper at the buzzer to give Westminster a 67-65 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over visiting Bethany Saturday afternoon at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.

Westminster improved to 9-14 overall and 6-8 in the league with Saturday's win. The Titans sit in third place in the PAC North with two regular season games remaining.

Senior Angelena Ukeagu (Ambridge, Pa., Ambridge) was honored prior to Saturday's tipoff.

Sophomore Maddie Syka (Darlington, Pa., Lincoln Park) led all scorers with 20 points. It was her first 20-point game of the year and fourth of her career. Syka finished 4-of-9 from beyond the three-point line. Freshman Jenna Zuelch (Aurora, Ohio, Aurora) added 12 points and six rebounds in 21 reserve minutes. She scored 10 of her 12 in the first half. Grexa scored eight points to go along with 11 rebounds. Saturday was her fifth double-digit rebounding game this season.

Lindsey Best led Bethany (15-8, 10-4 PAC) with 19 points. She scored 12 of her 19 in the opening half.

Down one, 30-29, at the half, Westminster stretched its third quarter lead to seven, 53-46, on sophomore Katie Maryo's (Cleveland, Ohio, Magnificat) layup with just over a minute to go. The Titans went into the fourth up five, 53-48. Maryo and freshman Bella Calcamuggio (Sylvania, Ohio, Notre Dame) scored five apiece in the third. Behind a late 12-0 run, Bethany evened the game at 65-all before Grexa's game-winner off the Calcamuggio inbounds pass sealed the Titans' victory.

Westminster ourebounded Bethany 42-36 and had a 16-11 edge on the offensive glass. The Titans' reserves outscored the Bison bench 21-5.
