Westminster edges Hiram on road

HIRAM, Ohio--Freshman Bella Calcamuggio (Sylvania, Ohio, Notre Dame) drilled a clutch three-pointer with just over 11 seconds left in regulation to key Westminster's 61-56 come-from-behind Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory at Hiram Wednesday evening inside Price Gymnasium.

Westminster snapped a three-game losing streak with the win, improving to 8-14 overall and 5-8 in the league. The Titans defeated the Terriers 63-61 on Jan. 14 in New Wilmington. Hiram fell to 8-14 overall and 4-9 in the conference.

Junior Grace Cano (Greenville, Pa., Greenville) paced three players in double figures, finishing with 17 points and four rebounds. Sophomore Katie Grexa (Hartford, Ohio, Badger) registered a 12-point, 15-rebound double-double, her second of the year. Grexa added three assists, three blocked shots and three steals. Sophomore Maddie Syka (Darlington, Pa., Lincoln Park) scored 11 points.

Star Owens led Hiram with a 27-point, 10-rebound double-double.

Down by 15, 29-14, Westminster outscored Hiram 17-3 over the final seven minutes of the second quarter to cut the deficit to one, 32-31, going into the break. Grexa had eight points and four rebounds in the opening half.

Westminster took its first lead of the game with eight-and-a-half minutes left in the third, going up one, 33-32, on a Cano layup. The Titans scored the final six points of the quarter to tie the game at 45-all heading into the fourth. Junior Kennedy Arison (Medina, Ohio, Akron Hoban) split a pair of free throws with just over a minute to play to tie the game 56-all before the defense forced a shot clock violation with 50 seconds left. After Calcamuggio's three-pointer, sophomore Angelina Brush (Murrysville, Pa., Franklin Regional) hit a pair of free throws with a second on the clock to preserve the Titans' five-point victory.

Westminster finished with a 45-37 advantage on the glass and had a 14-2 edge in second chance points. The Titans outscored the Titans 36-24 in the paint. Westminster's bench outscored its Hiram counterparts 16-0.
