Titans hold off Grove City in road win

GROVE CITY, Pa.--Westminster hung on for a 65-59 victory over Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Grove City Wednesday night at the Grove City College Arena.

Graduate student DJ Harrell (Cleveland, Ohio, East Technical) matched his career high with 27 points. He finished 9-of-17 from the floor and went 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Harrell has scored 20 or more points in five games this year, including the last four straight. Senior Trey DePietro (Boardman, Ohio, Boardman) registered his second double-double this season, finishing with 15 points and a season-high 12 rebounds. He went 7-of-9 from the field.

Mike Christenson led Grove City with 17 points, seven boards and five assists. Kyle Randle added 15 points.

Trailing 6-2 early, the Titans rattled off 17-straight points during a five-plus minute scoring run to snag a 19-6 lead, capped by senior Jaxon Hendershott's (Salem, Ohio, West Branch) four-point play with just over 11 minutes left in the half. Harrell had six points during the spurt. Westminster stretched its lead to 17, 42-25, following DePietro's jumper with 1:15 remaining before Harrell's driving layup with seven seconds to go gave the Titans a 44-30 advantage heading into the half. Harrell scored 14 first half points on 7-of-10 shooting. DePietro totaled 10 points and seven rebounds in the first 20 minutes.

Grove City chiseled away at Westminster's lead to start the second, using back-to-back three-pointers by Caleb Haller and Anderson Skelton to cut it to six, 54-48, with eight-and-a-half minutes left. Christenson knocked down a pair of free throws with 4:20 to go to pull the Wolverines to within three, 57-54. Down the stretch Harrell went 6-of-6 from charity stripe to secure Westminster's first win in Grove City since a 57-45 triumph on Feb. 16, 2022.

The Titans hit a season-high 19 free throws Wednesday night.

Up next:
