Westminster rides Ryan’s double-double to convincing win over Chatham

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Freshman Nick Ryan (Warren, Ohio, John F. Kennedy) recorded a 27-point, 13-rebound double-double that fueled Westminster's 86-66 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over Chatham on Saturday afternoon at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.

Westminster, winners of four straight and eight of its last nine, ran its season record to 13-6 overall and 8-2 in the PAC. It was Westminster's first win over Chatham since a 94-74 victory on Jan. 5, 2023 (six games).

With Saturday's win, Westminster owns a three-game lead in the PAC North Division.

Saturday was Ryan's second double-double this season. His 27 points were a career high. Graduate student DJ Harrell (Cleveland, Ohio, East Technical) finished with 17 points and four rebounds. He scored 11 of his 17 in the second half. Senior Mick Hergenrother (Canfield, Ohio, Cardinal Mooney) added 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists while senior Drew Weir (Salem, Ohio, Salem) totaled nine points, 10 rebounds and five assists.

Diaun Pinkett led Chatham (13-5, 8-2 PAC) with 23 points.

Westminster took control early, using a 16-0 spurt to open up a 20-point lead, 42-22, on Hergenrother's three-point play with just under five minutes remaining. The Titans went into the half up 21, 52-31. Westminster shot a blistering 57.6 percent (19-33) from the floor in the first half and went 6-of-15 (.400) from three-point range.

The Titans ran their second half lead to as many as 28, 62-34, on Harrell's dunk with just under 17 minutes to go. Behind an 11-0 scoring run, Chatham cut the deficit to 17, 62-45, with 12:25 to play. A Hergenrother three-pointer with just over a minute left stretched the Titans' lead to 25, 86-61 before managing to preserve the 20-point win over the PAC South-leading Cougars.

Westminster finished shooting 51.7 percent (30-58) from the field and 35.7 percent (10-28) from beyond the three-point line. The Titans outrebounded the Cougars 45-30.
