Westminster earns 6-1 triumph at Clarion

CLARION, Pa.--The Westminster College women's tennis program opened its season with a convincing 6-1 victory at Clarion Saturday afternoon. 

The Titans claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 before snagging wins in four of the five contested singles matches. 

Junior Emma Overlingas (Pittsburgh, Pa., Baldwin) and senior Grace Askey (Dubois, Pa., Jeff Tech) both won twice on Saturday. The pair cruised to a 6-2 victory over Taelyn Thomas and Emily McMahan at No. 2 doubles before Overlingas dispatched Polia Vladeva 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Askey defeated Thomas 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) at No. 4 singles. Senior Christine Rossi (Jefferson Hills, Pa., Thomas Jefferson) earned a 7-5, 3-6, 12-10 win over Davan Lion at No. 1 singles while freshman Megan Blasko (Mercer, Pa., Pennsylvania Cyber Charter) outlasted McMahan 2-6, 6-4, 11-9 at No. 3 singles.

Senior Emily Klaus (Warren, Ohio, Warren JFK) and sophomore Emily Yurko (Boardman, Ohio, Boardman) won by forfeit at No. 3 doubles. Yurko also won by forfeit at No. 6 singles. 

Up next:
Westminster hosts defending Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) champion Allegheny Wednesday in New Wilmington. Doubles action is scheduled to get underway at 4:30 p.m.
