Geneva nabs 1-0 win at Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss to visiting Geneva Saturday afternoon at the UPMC Sports Complex. 

Westminster fell to 0-5-3 overall and 0-1-1 in the PAC with Saturday's setback. Geneva improved to 3-3-3 overall and 2-0 in league action. 

Scoreless at the half, Geneva's Madalyn Fales broke open the match after netting the game-winner in the 77th minute. It was her first career goal.

Senior Morgan Murphy (Yardley, Pa., Villa Joseph Marie) made two saves in 77 minutes. She moved into the field after the Geneva score, replaced by junior Emily Codere (Shelton, Conn., Shelton), who made one save.

Natalie Foster made three saves for Geneva, registering her sixth shutout of the year.

The Titans received 90-minute efforts from freshman Hailey McQueen (Sellersville, Pa., Faith Christian Academy) and seniors Taylor Jones (Trafford, Pa., Penn-Trafford)Amanda Lewis (Slippery Rock, Pa., Slippery Rock)Emma Maloberti (Cranberry Township, Pa., Seneca Valley) and Alena Taladay (Ford City, Pa., Armstrong).

Westminster outshot Geneva 9-7. Shots on goal were in favor of the Golden Tornadoes, 4-3, while Westminster had a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.

Westminster will conclude its four-match run at the UPMC Sports Complex Wednesday, hosting Hiram (4-5, 1-1 PAC) at 7:30 p.m.
