Westminster earns home shutout over Hiram

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Senior Amanda Lewis (Slippery Rock, Pa., Slippery Rock) recorded a goal and an assist to help propel the Westminster College women's soccer team to a 2-0 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) shutout over visiting Hiram Wednesday night at the UPMC Sports Complex.

Westminster improved to 1-5-3 overall and 1-1-1 in the league. Hiram fell to 4-6 overall and 1-2 in conference action. 

Senior Morgan Murphy (Yardley, Pa., Villa Joseph Marie) made a pair of saves in her third shutout of the season. It was the 16th shutout of her career. 

Junior Giulianna Russell (Kinston, N.C., Wayne Christian) netted the first goal of her career in the 34th minute, scoring off Lewis' corner kick. Lewis extended the lead to 2-0 in the 43rd minute, scoring for the first time since she registered a pair of goals in Westminster's 5-2 win over Bethany on Oct. 23, 2023. She missed the entire 2024 season with a knee injury. 

Westminster outshot Hiram by a 13-1 margin in the second half and had a 24-3 advantage in the match. Nine of the Titans' 24 shots were on goal. The Titans finished with a 6-1 edge in corners. 

Madie Kennedy had seven saves for the Terriers.

Russell, freshman Hailey McQueen (Sellersville, Pa., Faith Christian Academy), junior Ally Harrold (Somerset, Pa., Rockwood) and senior Taylor Jones (Trafford, Pa., Penn-Trafford) anchored the Titans' disciplined defense.

Up next:
Westminster will travel to Steubenville, Ohio and Trinity Health System Field Saturday to take on Franciscan (1-6-2, 0-1-2 PAC). The match is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
