Westminster prevails at Waynesburg

WAYNESBURG, Pa.--Fueled by four double winners the Westminster College women's tennis team earned a 5-2 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over Waynesburg Friday afternoon at the Bechtle Family Tennis Facility.

Westminster snapped a three-match conference losing streak with its win Friday, improving to 3-4 overall and 2-4 in the league. Waynesburg fell to 3-5 overall and 0-4 in the PAC. 

Seniors Christine Rossi (Jefferson Hills, Pa., Thomas Jefferson) and Grace Askey (Dubois, Pa., Jeff Tech), along with junior Emma Overlingas (Pittsburgh, Pa., Baldwin) and freshman Megan Blasko (Mercer, Pa., Pennsylvania Cyber Charter), won twice. Rossi and Blasko bested Celeste Matsaudza and Julia Corey at No. 1 doubles, 6-0, while Overlingas and Askey posted a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles over Taylor Stephens and Julia Umshares. Despite a forfeit at No. 3 doubles, the Titans secured the doubles point.

Rossi defeated Matsaudza 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles while Overlingas cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Luzar at No. 2 singles. Blasko defeated Stevens 7-5, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, pushing her singles record to 5-2 this fall. Askey outlasted Umshares 6-7 (5), 6-4, 10-7 at No. 4 singles. Senior Emily Klaus (Warren, Ohio, Warren JFK) fell to Corey 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and Bailey took a forfeit win at No. 6 singles for Yellow Jackets. 

Up next:
Westminster will travel to Alliance, Ohio Saturday to take on Mount Union (1-1). Doubles action from the Whitehill Tennis Courts is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
