Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Titans snag a pair of wins Saturday

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--In its first home action this season the Westminster College women's volleyball team earned a pair of three-set victories Saturday at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium, defeating Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Geneva before posting a win over Penn State DuBois.

Westminster improved to 9-5 overall and 1-1 in the league.

Westminster 3, Geneva 0
25-15, 25-19, 25-18
The Titans have now won five of their last eight matchups with the Golden Tornadoes. After watching Geneva get out to an early 8-1 lead in the first, Westminster used three-straight services from junior Anna-Kate Davis (Boonsboro, Md., Boonsboro) to pull to within one, 9-8. Trailing 10-8, the Titans ripped off 11-straight points to take a 19-10 lead. Junior Liv Trent (Pittsburgh, Pa., Brentwood) had three of her eight kills during the run. The lead changed just once in the second period, but after stringing together eight-straight points later in the match, Westminster went up 11, 21-10. Geneva climbed back to within four, 21-17, after scoring eight-straight points down the stretch before Trent secured the set win with the last of her five kills in the set. The third set was a back-and-forth affair, with senior Rachel LaSalvia (Columbus, Pa., Corry) knotting things up at 12-all with her second kill of the set. LaSalvia added two more kills to extend the lead to three, 17-14, before a Geneva timeout. The Golden Tornadoes pulled to within four, 22-18, late but a kill by senior Charlotte Burgan (Moon Township, Pa., Moon), followed by a Geneva attack error and bad set, sealed the three-set win.

LaSalvia reached double-digit kills for the fourth time this year, finishing with 10 while hitting .267. She added 11 digs for her third double-double this season. Trent finished with eight kills, 16 digs and three blocks. Senior Angie Nardone (Ellwood City, Pa., Lincoln) totaled 13 assists and six digs while Davis finished with nine assists and five digs. Junior Maggie Shadle (Marion Center, Pa., Marion Center) added 13 digs.

Abigail Glumac led Geneva with nine kills.
