Penn State Altoona takes Lee Hite Cup

LIGONIER, Pa.--The Westminster College men's golf program fell to Penn State Altoona, 6-1, in the fifth annual battle for the Lee Hit Cup Saturday at the Laurel Valley Golf Club, just south of Pittsburgh.

Westminster had claimed the match play event for four-straight years before Saturday's defeat. The Titans won at the Bedford Springs Old Course, 5-2, last September. The Titans won the inaugural event 4.5-2.5 in 2021 and earned a 4-3 victory in 2022 before capturing a 5-2 win in 2023 at Laurel Valley.

The annual match play event honors Mr. Hite's beneficence to both Westminster and Penn State Altoona.

Westminster's lone victory was secured by freshman Aydan Gross (Mount Pleasant, Pa., Mount Pleasant) in the No. 5 spot, winning 3-and-2 against Nicky Riscica.

Up next:
Westminster will return to action Sunday-Monday, Sept. 21-22 at Allegheny's Guy and Jeanne Kuhn Invitational. The annual event is once again being hosted by the Country Club of Meadville. The Titans were third at the 11-team event last year.
