Murphy stops six shots in scoreless draw with Wilmington

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Senior Morgan Murphy (Yardley, Pa., Villa Joseph Marie) recorded six saves for the Westminster College women's soccer team Friday night in its home opener, a scoreless draw with Wilmington at the UPMC Sports Complex. 

Westminster is now 0-2-2. Wilmington's record stands at 2-2-2 after Friday's draw. 

The shutout was the 14th of Murphy's career. 

The match, tightly contested from start to finish, saw both sides create chances in a back-and-forth second half that featured nine shots on goal. Wilmington ended the match with 19 shots, including six on goal, while Westminster had 10 shots with five on target. All of the Titans' shots on goal came in the second half. Westminster took three of its five corner kicks in the second.

Morgan made a pivotal save on a MJ Little shot in the 80th minute to help preserve the draw. Awarded a pair of corners in the final six minutes, Westminster was unable to break through. 

Emma Storck had five saves for Wilmington. 

Up next: 
Westminster will travel to University Heights, Ohio Wednesday to take on John Carroll. The match is scheduled to get underway at 7 p.m.
