8/22/2025 11:00:00 AM

TRAFFORD, Pa.--The Westminster College women's tennis program was picked to finish sixth in this year's Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Preseason Coaches' Poll. This year's preseason coaches' poll, voted on by the conference's nine head coaches, was announced with the PAC's Players to Watch List Friday morning.

Westminster received 31 points in this year's poll. Mike Blasko was named the head coach of the men's and women's tennis programs last February. Last year Westminster finished with an 8-4 overall record and went 5-3 in the PAC. The No. 4 seed in the PAC Championship Tournament, Westminster scored a 5-2 opening-round win over W&J before suffered a 4-0 loss to top-seeded Allegheny in the semifinal round of the championship tournament last October.

Allegheny, last year's PAC champion, claimed first place on this year's coaches' poll with 64 points and eight first-place votes. Grove City followed in second with 55 points and the final first-place votes while Franciscan was third with 48 points.

The Titans have three players included on this year's Players to Watch List: seniors Grace Askey (Dubois, Pa., Jeff Tech) and Christine Rossi (Jefferson Hills, Pa., Thomas Jefferson) with junior Emma Overlingas (Pittsburgh, Pa., Baldwin)

Askey played primarily out of the No. 6 singles position last year, going 3-5 overall and 2-3 in league play. She was named to the PAC's Sportsmanship Team last fall.

Rossi suffered an injury early last fall and was limited to just three matches. In 2023, she finished the season with an overall singles record of 8-6, a conference singles record of 5-2 and a 12-5 overall record in doubles competition. A First Team All-PAC selection at No. 1 doubles in 2023, she was also named Second Team All-PAC at No. 2 singles.

Overlingas was an Honorable Mention All-PAC selection at No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles last fall. She finished the year 10-2 overall and was 7-1 in the PAC in singles action. Overlingas was named Second Team All-PAC at No. 5 singles in 2023. She partnered with 2025 graduate Ryleigh Valone (Erie, Pa., Villa Maria Academy) to earn Honorable Mention All-PAC at No. 2 doubles in 2024.

Westminster will get its season underway at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6 at PennWest Clarion. The Titans are scheduled to begin a three-match Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) homestand on Wednesday, Sept. 10 against Allegheny, with doubles matches beginning at 4:30 p.m. The league's regular season is scheduled to conclude on Saturday, Oct. 11 with the six-team PAC Championship Tournament scheduled to get underway Tuesday, Oct. 14.
