Westminster clipped at home

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College men's lacrosse program suffered a 12-10 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss to visiting Saint Vincent College Wednesday night at the UPMC Sports Complex. 

Westminster fell to 6-6 overall and 1-3 in the conference. Saint Vincent improved to 7-5 overall and 4-0 in the PAC. 

Senior midfielder Gavin Jones (Henrico, Va., Douglas S. Freeman) and freshman attacker Ethan Kurtz (Hummelstown, Pa., Lower Dauphin) each finished with three points on two goals and one assist. Jones added one caused turnover. Junior midfielder Brady Page (Cranberry Township, Pa., Seneca Valley) scored twice.

Junior short-stick Jahiem Hawkins (Huntington Station, N.Y., Huntington) had an assist, three ground balls and four caused turnovers. Graduate defender David Evangelista (Pittsburgh, Pa., Chartiers Valley) finished with three ground balls and two caused turnovers while senior defender Geoffrey Worsey (Frederick, Md., Tuscarora) had two ground balls and three caused turnovers. 

Westminster took a 4-1 lead into the second with a buzzer-beating goal from Kurtz. Each team scored twice in the second quarter and Westminster went into the break up 6-3. Saint Vincent rattled off three-straight scores in the third, with Mason Krabbe tying the game at 8-8 with just under for minutes to go in the quarter. Junior attacker Kyler Nigliazzo (Montgomery, Texas, Magnolia West) scored with less than a minute left in the quarter to give Westminster a 9-8 lead heading into the fourth. Saint Vincent scored four-straight goals in the final quarter. 

Saint Vincent edged Westminster in shots, 40-39, and had a 22-14 advantage in shots on goal. Saint Vincent was a perfect 18-for-18 on clears while Westminster went 26-for-30. 

Up Next:
Westminster travels to Steubenville, Ohio Saturday to take on Franciscan University. The opening faceoff from Trinity Health System Field is scheduled for 4 p.m.
