Westminster falls in home finale to No. 25 Mount Union

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College baseball program suffered a 12-6 Senior Recognition Day loss to the University of Mount Union, the current No. 25 team in the latest American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Division III Coaches' Poll, Monday afternoon. 

Mount Union improved to 26-8 overall. Westminster fell to 16-19 this season. Monday was the Titans' final home game of the season. Ten senior members of the program were honored: Dwight Parker (Youngstown, Ohio, Liberty)David Kelly (Gibsonia, Pa., Eden Christian Academy)Ryan Feth (Jefferson Hills, Pa., Thomas Jefferson)Cody Vetter (Rochester, N.Y., Hilton Central)Chris Davis (San Francisco, Calif., Stuart Hall)Braeden Campbell (Glenshaw, Pa., Shaler)Derek Beach (Titusville, Pa., Titusville)Adam Coppins (Lewiston, N.Y., Lewiston-Porter)Wyatt Walker (Venetia, Pa., Peters Township) and Ryan Gibbons (Ellwood City, Pa., Lincoln). 

Mount Union snagged a 6-2 lead with its five-run fifth. Graduate second baseman Logan Murgenovich (Aliquippa, Pa., Central Valley) drilled a two-out, three-run double down the left field line in the home half of the sixth, tying the game at 6-all. 

In the seventh, Chris Tsouras' RBI single, followed by Jaired Lehman's run-scoring double, gave the Purple Raiders a 9-6 lead before Daniel Tome III's sacrifice fly stretched the lead to 10-6. Tsouras and Lehman had RBI groundouts in the top of the ninth that closed out the scoring.

Gibbons fell to 1-5 this season with the loss, giving up six runs (6 earned) on five hits with four walks and a strikeout in 3.2 innings. 

Sophomore third baseman Parker Lyons (Rochester, Pa., Rochester) went 2-for-4 with an RBI. It was his 18th multi-hit game this season. Campbell's first inning single extended his current hitting streak to 15 games.

Westminster will travel to Mount Aloysius College Tuesday. The first pitch from Cresson, Pa. is scheduled for 4 p.m.
