Women's lacrosse falls in regular season finale

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College women's lacrosse program dropped a 17-12 decision to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Chatham University Saturday afternoon at the UPMC Sports Complex. 

Westminster fell to 11-5 overall wrapped up its regular season league schedule with a 6-3 PAC record, securing the No. 4 seed in next week's PAC Championship Tournament. Chatham improved to 9-6 overall and 7-2 in the PAC, earning the conference tournament's No. 3 seed with Saturday's win. 

Prior to the opening draw control, Westminster's two seniors were honored: Shea O'Donnell (Hatfield, Pa., Lansdale Catholic) and Felicia Young (Darlington, Pa., Blackhawk)

Junior attacker Julia Ravazza (Twain Harte, Calif., Dublin) netted four goals and added one assist. She also had six draw controls. Freshman midfielder Ava Kessler (White Oak, Pa., Norwin) finished with two goals, an assist, six draw controls and a pair of ground balls. Junior Chloe Courinos (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk) and Young both scored a pair of goals while junior attacker Haley Wenzel (Coppell, Texas, Coppell) had a goal and an assist.

Freshman defender Keely Jackson (Chardon, Ohio, Chardon) caused a pair of turnovers and had one ground ball. Sophomore Falyn Snyder (Bel Air, Md., Bel Air) made eight saves and had three ground balls. 

Erin Goodwin paced Allegheny with seven points on five goals and two assists. Tessa Hueber scored three times and added three assists, five draw controls, a ground ball and a caused turnover. Bailey Donofrio scored four goals and added a pair of ground balls. Sam Beall-Dennell finished with two goals, and assist, nine draw controls and a ground ball. She was 2-for-4 on free position shots. 

Goodwin scored four times in the first half to help Chatham take a 10-7 lead into halftime. Ravazza had three first half scores for Westminster. Ravazza's fourth goal, scored with just under 12 minutes to go in the third, cut Chatham's lead to one, 13-12. The Cougars scored the final four goals of the game to claim the road victory. 

Chatham outshot Westminster 37-28, putting 18 shots on goal. Westminster was 12-of-17 of clear attempts and 1-of-6 on its free-position shots.

Westminster will host No. 6 Thiel College in the quarterfinal round of the PAC Championship Tournament Tuesday. The opening draw from the UPMC Sports Complex is scheduled for 6 p.m.
