Westminster splits at Allegheny

MEADVILLE, Pa.--The Westminster College baseball program concluded its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) regular season schedule Saturday with a split at Allegheny College. The host Gators snagged a 9-5 win in game one before the Titans rebounded with a 10-5 game two victory.

Westminster is now 16-18 overall and 11-9 in the PAC. Allegheny snapped a five-game losing streak with its win in game one. The Gators are now 18-16 overall and 11-7 in the league.

Game 1
Allegheny sent nine men to the plate in the home half of the eighth, breaking things open with its six-hit, four-run frame. In the ninth, sophomore catcher Braden Zeigler (New Castle, Pa., Shenango) drew a bases-loaded walk to score sophomore centerfielder Quinn Marquis (Hinckley, Ohio, Highland), who led off with a walk of his own. Senior shortstop Braeden Campbell (Glenshaw, Pa., Shaler) delivered a two-out, two-run base hit later in the frame.

Sophomore third baseman Parker Lyons (Rochester, Pa., Rochester) went 2-for-5 with an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base.

Sophomore right-hander Tyson Djakovich (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) was dealt his first loss of the year, falling to 6-1. He allowed nine runs (9 earned) on 12 hits with two walks and three strikeouts in 7.2 innings. Junior right-hander Tyler Parsons (Hebron, Ky., Conner) gave up a pair of hits in one-third of an inning.

Walker Cunningham improved to 4-1, allowing two runs (2 earned) on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts in 7.0 innings. Tyson Bryant-Dawson worked the ninth and allowed one hit with three strikeouts to secure the save. William Wolff went 4-for-4 with a double, a home run, three RBIs and a pair of runs scored.

Game 2
Westminster, trailing 5-2 after four, responded with a four-run fifth and two more in both the six and seventh. Senior rightfielder Derek Beach's (Titusville, Pa., Titusville) two-out, two-run singled keyed Westminster's four-run fifth. Senior leftfielder Chris Davis (San Francisco, Calif., Stuart Hall), playing for the first time since April 12, drove in a run in the sixth when he was hit by a pitch. Graduate catcher Chase Tomko (Hermitage, Pa., West Middlesex) added another run with his two-out, RBI base hit. Sophomore designated player Josh Reed (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk) drove in a run with a base hit in the seventh before scoring a wild pitch later in the frame.

Reed worked 3.0 innings, allowing three runs (1 earned) on three hits with two walks and a strikeout in the no-decision. Graduate right-hander Kolton Banfi (Harrisville, Pa., Franklin) ran his record this year to 5-0 with relief victory, giving up two runs (2 earned) on seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts in 6.0 innings.

Reed went 2-for-2 with a double, two walks, an RBI and two runs scored. Tomko reached base three times, going 2-for-4 with a double, a hit by pitch, an RBI and two runs scored. Campbell went 2-for-6 with an RBI and a run scored to stretch his current hitting streak to 14 games.
