Westminster earns Saturday win against Allegheny

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Freshman midfielder Ava Kessler (White Oak, Pa., Norwin) set a new program record for single-season draw controls Saturday afternoon during Westminster College's 14-7 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over Allegheny College at the UPMC Sports Complex.

Westminster upped its overall record to 10-4 overall and improved to 5-2 in the PAC. Allegheny has dropped four-straight games, falling to 3-11 overall and 2-5 in the league.

Kessler finished with nine draw controls, surpassing head coach Bria Braddock's previous program record of 100, which was set in 2019.

Junior attacker Julia Ravazza (Twain Harte, Calif., Dublin) totaled 10 points on six goals and four assists. She added a pair of draw controls and one ground ball. Saturday was Ravazza's third game this season with 10 or more points. Senior midfielder Felicia Young (Darlington, Pa., Blackhawk) scored goals and added two ground balls and two caused turnovers. It was her fourth game scoring four or more goals this year. Junior attacker Chloe Courinos (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk) had two goals, two assists and a ground ball.

Senior defender Shea O'Donnell (Hatfield, Pa., Lansdale Catholic) finished with four ground balls and four caused turnovers. Junior defender Morgan Reidy (Elmira, N.Y., Elmira) had four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers while classmate Isabella Cespedes (Merrick, N.Y., Sanford H. Calhoun) logged four ground balls and had one caused turnover. Freshman defender Mikayla Beveridge (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk) added three ground balls and a caused turnover.

Sophomore Falyn Snyder (Bel Air, Md., Bel Air) improved to 10-4 in net, making 13 saves and adding two ground balls and a caused turnover.

Westminster scored three times in the first quarter and three more times in the second to take a 6-2 lead into halftime. A 3-1 edge in third quarter scoring led to Westminster carrying a 9-3 advantage into the fourth. Three-straight Ravazza scores, including a woman-down goal with four-and-a-half minutes to go, pushed the lead to 14-5. Allegheny's Lauren Petrarca and Ema Caragein scored the game's final two goals with just over two minutes to go. Caragein finished with three goals in the game.

Allegheny outshot Westminster 31-29 while Westminster managed to put 20 of its 29 shots on goal. The Titans finished with 31 successful clears on 34 attempts.
