Westminster falls at home to Oberlin

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College women's lacrosse program was dealt a 16-10 loss by Oberlin College Wednesday afternoon at the UPMC Sports Complex. 

Oberlin improved to 8-6 this season while Westminster's overall record fell to 9-4. 

Junior attacker Chloe Courinos (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk) finished with three goals and two ground balls. Junior midfielder Michaela Neelin (Henrietta, N.Y., Rush Henrietta) had a pair of goals, one assist, three ground balls and one caused turnover. 

Sophomore Falyn Snyder (Bel Air, Md., Bel Air) finished seven saves, five ground balls and three caused turnovers. Freshman midfielder Ava Kessler (White Oak, Pa., Norwin) totaled two assists, two ground balls, one caused turnover and 11 draw controls. 

Oberlin, leading 5-4 after one quarter, used scores by Izzy Sunday and Phoebe Dolan to close out the second quarter and went into the break up 9-7. The Yeowomen erupted in the second half with a 5-0 run in the third and headed into the final quarter up seven, 14-7. Megan Hiller scored two of Oberlin's five third quarter goals. Courinos netted back-to-back scores, with under 10 minutes to go, including a woman-up goal with less than seven minutes to play, that cut the lead to five, 15-10. Olivia Corradi scored her third goal of the game with under five remaining. 

Dolan finished with seven points on six goals and an assist. Hiller added two goals, three assists, four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Sunday had four goals. 

Oberlin out shot Westminster 36-32 and had an 18-12 edge in shots on goal. Westminster was successful on 12 of its 16 clears and had 18 draw controls to Oberlin's 11.
