Baseball splits with Waynesburg

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College baseball program split a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader with Waynesburg University Saturday afternoon, taking the opener 6-1 before dropping the nightcap 6-4.

Westminster now owns an overall record of 13-13, including an 8-4 mark in PAC play. Waynesburg's overall record sits at 6-23 overall and 2-10 in the conference.

Game 1
Graduate student Kolton Banfi (Harrisville, Pa., Franklin) fired the third complete game in his last four starts in Saturday's game one win, allowing one run (earned) on six hits with a walk and six strikeouts. A right-hander, he improved to 4-0 this season. It was the eighth complete game of his career.

Leading 3-1 after five, senior designated hitter Chris Davis (San Francisco, Calif., Stuart Hall) delivered a two-run single to right before junior first baseman Josh Reed's (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk) RBI single pushed Westminster's lead to 6-1 in the home half of the sixth.

Sophomore center fielder Quinn Marquis (Hinckley, Ohio, Highland) went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, an RBI and a run scored. It was his third triple of the year. Junior rightfielder Andrew Wolf (Dillsburg, Pa., Northern York) went 1-for-2 with a triple and two walks.

Game 2
Westminster hung a pair of runs in the fourth and added another in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead heading into the sixth. After both teams scratched out runs in the seventh, and Westminster leading 4-2, Waynesburg responded with a four-run eighth. The Yellow Jackets sent nine men to plate in the inning.

Sophomore right-hander Jon Albers (Corry, Pa., Corry) fell to 0-2, giving up four runs (4 earned) on two hits with a walk and a strikeout in one-third of an inning. Sophomore left-hander Tyson Djakovich (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory), the game two starter, allowed two runs (1 earned) on five hits with two walks and strikeouts in the seven inning no-decision. Marquis went 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore third baseman Parker Lyons (Rochester, Pa., Rochester) was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base while sophomore catcher Braden Zeigler (New Castle, Pa., Shenango) went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
