Westminster earns convincing win at Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C.--The Westminster College women's lacrosse program scored a convincing 20-3 victory over Greensboro College Thursday afternoon at Pride Field. Freshman midfielder Ava Kessler (White Oak, Pa., Norwin) highlighted the win, recording a career-high seven points on six goals and an assist to go along with three ground balls and seven draw controls. 

Westminster pushed its season record to 4-1 with the win. Greensboro fell to 1-5. 

The Titans raced out to a 10-1 lead at the conclusion of the opening quarter. Kessler and junior attack Haley Wenzel (Coppell, Texas, Coppell) netted three apiece in the first. Kessler scored two more in the second, helping Westminster shut out Greensboro 5-0 in the quarter and go into the half leading 15-1. 

Junior attack Chloe Courinos (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk), sophomore attack Khloe Huba (Butler, Pa., Butler), Wentzel, Kessler and junior midfielder Michaela Neelin (Henrietta, N.Y., Rush Henrietta) all scored second half goals. 

Wentzel finished with a career-high five goals while Courinos also set a career high with three goals. Senior midfielder Felicia Young (Darlington, Pa., Blackhawk) scored twice. Neelin finished with a goal, an assist and eight draw controls. 

Freshman defender Mikayla Beveridge (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk) totaled two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Sophomore Falyn Snyder (Bel Air, Md., Bel Air) turned away three shots, improving to 4-1 in net this year. 

Westminster outshot Greensboro 36-11, putting 30 shots on goal.

Westminster will host Muskingum University on Wednesday, March 19. The opening draw from the UPMC Sports Complex is scheduled for 5 p.m.
