Titans hold on for 6-5 win at William Peace

CARY, N.C.--Westminster College, fueled by a three-run fifth inning, held off a late rally by William Peace University to score a 6-5 road victory Saturday afternoon at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.

Westminster, winners of four straight, improved to 4-2. William Peace fell to 2-11. Saturday was the start of the Titans' seven-game Spring Break swing through North Carolina and Ohio.

Sophomore right-hander Tyson Djakovich (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) improved to 2-0 this season, surrendering two runs (2 earned) on six hits with two strikeouts and a walk in 5.0 innings. Senior right-hander Wyatt Walker (Venetia, Pa., Peters Township) struck out three in 2.0 innings of relief work.

The Titans were limited to just five hits Saturday. Graduate second baseman Logan Murgenovich (Aliquippa, Pa., Central Valley) smacked a solo home run to left field in the third, staking Westminster to a 3-1 lead. It was his first home run since a 15-5 win over Franciscan University on April 18, 2024. He also scored a pair of runs. Murgenovich and junior designated hitter Josh Reed (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk) had back-to-back RBI groundouts in the first. Sophomore center fielder Quinn Marquis (Hinckley, Ohio, Highland) went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and two walks. Graduate first baseman Chase Tomko (Hermitage, Pa., West Middlesex), sophomore catcher Braden Zeigler (New Castle, Pa., Shenango) and sophomore third baseman Parker Lyons (Rochester, Pa., Rochester) each had a hit.

Westminster's three runs in the fifth were all unearned. Senior shortstop Braeden Campbell (Glenshaw, Pa., Shaler) scored on a throwing error while Marquis and Murgenovich scored on wild pitches later in the inning.

The Pacers struck for one in the eighth and Nick Tubolino's one-out, two-run triple in the ninth cut the Titans' lead to one. Junior right-hander Jonathan Mollo (Germantown, N.Y., Germantown Central) bounced back and induced a pair of game-ending groundouts.

Tubolino went 3-for-3 with a triple, a walk, two RBIs and two runs scored for WPU.
