Westminster scores 20 in home win over Saint Vincent

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College women's lacrosse program led 13-1 at the half and outscored Saint Vincent College 7-3 in the second half to secure a 20-4 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over the visiting Bearcats Wednesday afternoon at the UPMC Sports Complex. 

Westminster, winners of four straight, improved to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the PAC. It is the best eight-game start to a season in program history. Saint Vincent has now dropped five straight, falling to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in the league.  

Wednesday was the third time this season the program scored 20 or more goals. 

Junior attacker Julia Ravazza (Twain Harte, Calif., Dublin) finished with nine points on three goals and six assists. She added two ground balls, two caused turnovers and two draw controls. Freshman midfielders Allyssa Anstis (Coraopolis, Pa., Moon) and Ava Kessler (White Oak, Pa., Norwin) each had six points. Anstis scored six goals while Kessler had two goals and four assists. Kessler added eight draw controls and three ground balls. Senior midfielder Felicia Young (Darlington, Pa., Blackhawk) scored five goals and had two ground balls and three draw controls. 

Junior defender Isabella Cespedes (Merrick, N.Y., Sanford H. Calhoun) eclipsed 100 career ground balls in Wednesday's win, finishing with four to go along with three caused turnovers. Junior attacker Chloe Courinos (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk) had one goal and one assist and finished with a career-high five ground balls. 

Sophomore Falyn Snyder (Bel Air, Md., Bel Air) finished with four saves and three ground balls. 

Katie Smith had a pair of goals for Saint Vincent. 

The Titans led 9-0 after one. Anstis scored four of her six goals in the opening quarter. Up 13-1 at the break, junior attack Haley Wenzel (Coppell, Texas, Coppell) and Courinos scored woman-up goals in the final nine minutes of the third to lead 15-2 heading into the fourth. Young netted two of her five scores in the fourth quarter. 

Westminster outshot Saint Vincent 38-9, putting 27 of its shots on goal. The Titans were successful on 17-of-18 clear attempts and won 15-of-235 draw controls. 

Up Next: 
Westminster will play a pair of road games over the next week, traveling to Grove City College Saturday and Franciscan University Wednesday.
