Westminster falls at Baldwin Wallace

BEREA, Ohio--The Westminster College baseball program suffered an 8-2 loss at Baldwin Wallace University Wednesday afternoon at Fisher Field.

Winners of three straight, BW upped its season record to 7-5. The Yellow Jackets entered the year at No. 11 on the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Division III Preseason Poll. Westminster has now dropped seven of its last eight, falling to 5-9 overall.

Westminster snagged a 1-0 lead in the second. Fifth-year rightfielder Nico Hall (Aliquippa, Pa., Central Valley) singled in senior designated hitter David Kelly (Gibsonia, Pa., Eden Christian Academy), who drew a walk to start the inning.

BW struck for three runs in the second and three more in the fourth while adding single runs in the seventh and the eighth. In the second, Dennis Ritlinger-Nirider hit a two-run home run to left a batter before Harrison Johnson's solo home run. Johnson also led off the seventh with a solo home run. He finished the game 3-for-4 with two home runs, two RBIs and three runs scored.

Dylan Snyder was credited with the win as Wednesday's most effective pitcher, allowing one hit and striking out a pair in the seventh and eighth innings, respectively.

Sophomore centerfielder Quinn Marquis (Hinckley, Ohio, Highland) drove in Westminster's lone run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth, scoring Hall, who led off the frame with a double. It was his second extra-base hit this season; he smacked a seventh inning solo home run in the Titans' 3-1 win at Heidelberg University on March 14. Hall went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

Sophomore right-hander Jon Albers (Corry, Pa., Corry) took the loss, allowing three runs (3 earned) on three hits with a walk in 2.0 innings. Westminster pitchers combined for six walks Wednesday.
