TIFFIN, Ohio--The Westminster College baseball program dropped a 4-3 decision to Heidelberg College Saturday afternoon at Peaceful Valley.

Five pitchers appeared for Westminster. Senior right-hander Ryan Gibbons (Ellwood City, Pa., Lincoln) made the start and allowed two runs (1 earned) on five hits with five strikeouts in 5.0 innings. Junior left-hander Thomas Simon (Milan, Ohio, Edison) worked a scoreless sixth before senior right-hander Adam Coppins (Lewiston, N.Y., Lewiston-Porter) surrendered what would be the eventual game-winner with one out in the seventh. He gave up two hits, the run (earned) and walked one in two-thirds of an inning. Freshman right-hander Ty Carrier (New Bethlehem, Pa., Redbank Valley) retired the final batter of the seventh before senior right-hander Wyatt Walker (Venetia, Pa., Peters Township) allowed one run (earned) on one hit and struck out two in the eighth.

Junior designated hitter Josh Reed (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk) was 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Senior shortstop Braeden Campbell (Glenshaw, Pa., Shaler) tied the game at 1-1 in the second with two-out, RBI base hit. Heidelberg's Logan Walpole scored on a balk in the fifth before a sharp RBI groundout by graduate second baseman Logan Murgenovich (Aliquippa, Pa., Central Valley) with two outs in the seventh evened things up at 2-2. Kyle Krummen's run-scoring single in the bottom of the inning scored Braden Keeney, who led off the inning with base hit, to give Heidelberg a 3-2 advantage. Connor Gambino drove in a run in eighth with a two-out single that pushed the Student Princes' lead to 4-2. Graduate catcher Chase Tomko (Hermitage, Pa., West Middlesex) led off the ninth with double, advanced to third on senior pinch hitter David Kelly's (Gibsonia, Pa., Eden Christian Academy) (Gibsonia, Pa., Eden Christian Academy) single and scored on sophomore centerfielder Quinn Marquis' (Hinckley, Ohio, Highland) fielder's choice.

Andrew Pokley was 2-for-4 for Heidelberg. His two-out solo home run in the bottom of the first put the Student Princes ahead 1-0. Gambino and Krummen had two hits each.

Corbin Caplan earned the win in relief of starter Nicolas Lavelle, giving up two runs (2 earned) on four hits with a strikeout in three innings. Lavelle allowed one run (unearned) on four hits with three walks and four strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work.
