Titans wrap up Florida trip with wins over Mount Saint Mary, Ohio Wesleyan

WINTER HAVEN, Fla.--The Westminster College softball program closed out its week-long Spring Break trip at THE Spring Games Friday with a 9-0, five-inning victory over Mount Saint Mary College and a 7-1 triumph over Ohio Wesleyan University at the DiamondPlex.

Up Next:
Westminster returns to New Wilmington with a 7-3 overall record. The Titans will travel to Hiram College on Thursday, March 20. First pitch of the non-conference doubleheader is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Game 1
Sophomore shortstop Ava Karpa (Coraopolis, Pa., Moon) launched a two-out, solo home run in the bottom half of the first to give Westminster the 1-0 lead. The Titans, fueled by five hits and three walks, exploded for an eight-run third. Sophomore catcher Faith Jones (Volant, Pa., Wilmington) had a two-run single while senior centerfielder Sydney Lokay (North Huntington, Pa., Norwin) delivered a two-out, two-run double. It was her third extra-base hit of the spring.

Karpa was 2-for-2 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored. It was the second home run of Karpa's career (April 25, 2024 at Chatham).

Sophomore Natalie Davis (Youngstown, Ohio, Boardman) ran her season record to 4-1 with the run-rule victory, allowing just three hits while striking out three in 4.0 innings. Junior Jenna Boneysteele (Carnegie, Pa., Chartiers Valley) worked a scoreless fifth, walking one and striking out one.

Grace MacDonald took the loss, allowing nine runs (9 earned) on five hits with four walks and a strikeout in 2.2 innings.

Game 2
Trailing 1-0 after one, Westminster used a three-run third and added two more runs in both the fourth and fifth innings, respectively, to grind out the win.

Freshman first baseman Lily Jordan (Rural Valley, Pa., West Shamokin) went 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Her two-out, RBI single in the third stretched the lead to 3-1. Jordan is currently hitting .484 with four extra-base hits (2 doubles, 2 home runs) and 13 RBIs. She's had four multi-hit games.

Senior second baseman Emily Watts (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell) replaced freshman starter Morgan O'Brien (Pittsburgh, Pa., Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) after a collision with Karpa with two outs in the first. Watts went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Jones was 2-for-2 with a two-run double in the fourth inning.

Freshman Cheyenne Piper (Latrobe, Pa., Ligonier Valley) improved to 2-1 in the circle with the complete game win, allowing one run (unearned) on four hits with eight strikeouts.

Makenna Knisley suffered the loss, giving up five runs (5 earned) on eight hits with a strikeout in 4.0 innings. Kaelyn Rodriguez allowed two runs (0 earned) on five hits with a pair of strikeouts in 3.0 relief innings. Avery Panozzo, Ohio Wesleyan's leadoff hitter, was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
