Titans stack a pair of victories on Thursday

KISSIMMEE, Fla.--The Westminster College softball program scored a pair of victories at THE Spring Games Thursday inside the Fortune Road Athletic Complex, earning a 3-2 win over Russell Sage College in the opener before posting a 5-1 win over Carlow College.

Up Next:
Friday at the DiamondPlex in Winter Haven, Westminster will wrap up its 10-game run at THE Spring Games. The Titans are scheduled to take on Mount Saint Mary College (N.Y.) at 11:15 a.m. before facing Ohio Wesleyan University at 2 p.m.

Game 1
Sophomore catcher Faith Jones (Volant, Pa., Wilmington) broke a 2-2 deadlock in the second with a sacrifice fly to right field that scored senior centerfielder Sydney Lokay (North Huntington, Pa., Norwin), who drew a walk to begin the bottom of the frame.

Freshman Cheyenne Piper (Latrobe, Pa., Ligonier Valley) evened her record a 1-1 with the win in relief of sophomore starter Grace Kissick (Portersville, Pa., Laurel), who allowed two runs (1 earned) with four walks and four strikeouts in 2.0 innings. Piper fired 5.0 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and striking out seven. Emma Heartquist's two-out base hit in the top of the seventh was Russell Sage's only hit of the game.

Freshman first baseman Lily Jordan (Rural Valley, Pa., West Shamokin) went 1-for-2 with a walk. Piper had a sixth-inning single after drawing a walk in the third. Senior leftfielder Danielle Teasdale (Cranberry Township, Pa., Seneca Valley) had a base hit in the second.

Alina Ferguson took the loss, giving up three runs (2 earned) on two hits with seven walks and three strikeouts in 5.0 innings. Leah Madore allowed one hit and struck out two in the sixth.

Game 2
Sophomore Natalie Davis (Youngstown, Ohio, Boardman) improved to 3-1 in the circle with the complete game win, allowing one run (unearned) on seven hits with a pair of walks and three strikeouts. She was hit by a pitch in the second and later scored on a wild pitch for Westminster's first run. Davis also singled in the fourth.

In the fifth, sophomore shortstop Ava Karpa (Coraopolis, Pa., Moon) hit a two-out, run-scoring single to stretch the lead to 2-0. Karpa's base hit scored senior catcher Mia Meholick (DuBois, Pa., DuBois Central Catholic), who was hit by a pitch earlier in the frame. Senior second baseman Emily Watts (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell) delivered a run-scoring double to left in the sixth before Jones' RBI single scored Watts to push the Titans' lead to 4-0 in the sixth.

After Carlow scratched out a run in the bottom of the sixth, Jordan smacked a one-out, run-scoring single up the middle in the seventh to give Westminster a four-run cushion. It was her 12th RBI of the season.

Junior rightfielder Kelly Troup (Mogadore, Ohio, Field) had a two-out single in the fifth. Sophomore designated player Riley Salazar (Elizabeth, Pa., Elizabeth Forward) doubled to lead off the sixth.

Haley Bicko suffered the loss for Carlow, allowing four runs (4 earned) on seven hits with a walk and four strikeouts in 5.2 innings. Megan Pollinger and Tatum Wiggs each had a pair of hits.
