Westminster suffers home loss to Wooster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Despite holding a 4-3 lead after one quarter, the Westminster College men's lacrosse program suffered a 13-9 loss to The College of Wooster Wednesday night at the UPMC Sports Complex. 

Wooster improved to 3-2 with the win. Westminster fell to 4-2. 

Graduate midfielder Jimmy Sentz (Catonsville, Md., Loyola Blakefield) finished with one goal and a career-high four assists. Senior attack Jonas Clark (Montgomery Village, Md., Watkins Mill) and senior midfielder Gavin Jones (Henrico, Va., Douglas S. Freeman) scored three goals each. Freshman midfielder Paul DiPasquale (Woodbine, Md., Glenelg) assisted on a pair of second half goals.

Senior long-stick midfielder Brody McGuinness (Heber City, Utah, Wasatch) had six ground balls and three caused turnovers. Clark, junior short-stick defensive midfielder Asher Silberling (Redondo Beach, Calif., Redondo Union) and freshman short-stick defensive midfielder Talan Hill-Ressler (Gibsonia, Pa., Pine-Richland) had three ground balls apiece. Senior defender David Evangelista (Pittsburgh, Pa., Chartiers Valley), freshman long-stick midfielder Tanner Crosby (Park City, Utah, Park City) and junior defender Jahiem Hawkins (Huntington Station, N.Y., Huntington) finished with two ground balls and two caused turnovers each. Freshman Nolan Grieshaber (Rocklin, Calif., Rocklin) finished with a career-high 13 saves. 

Lane Kellogg led Wooster with seven points on four goals and three assists. Austin Jorde added three goals and a pair of assists. Rory Zahren finished with eight ground balls and was 14-of-16 at the X. 

Kellogg and Jack Holub each registered goals in the opening 39 seconds of the game before Westminster responded with four-straight scores. Rowan Piani scored for the Fighting Scots with seven minutes to go in the period, cutting the Titans' lead to 4-3. Wooster used a 5-0 spurt in the second to go up four, 8-4, at halftime. Kellogg scored of the Fighting Scots' second quarter goals. Jones, Setz and sophomore midfielder Anthony Trella (Coraopolis, Pa., Moon) fired in third quarter scores, helping Westminster cut the lead to three, 10-7, heading into the fourth. Wooster posted three-straight goals to start their final quarter, going up six, 13-7. Jones scored his third with a minute-and-a-half to go and Clark scored with just under a minute remaining.

Both teams finished with 39 shots, with Wooster putting 26 on net compared to 20 for Westminster.

Westminster will host Marymount University (Va.) Saturday. The opening faceoff from the UPMC Sports Complex is scheduled for 12 p.m.
