Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Westminster suffers road defeat

BETHANY, W.Va.--The Westminster College men's basketball program suffered an 89-82 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss to Bethany College Monday night at Joe Kurey Memorial Court in Hummel Field House.

Monday's game was rescheduled from its original Nov. 20 date due to inclement weather forcing a power outage in the Bethany area.

Bethany improved to 7-12 overall and 2-12 in the league while Westminster fell to 5-14 overall and 2-12 in the conference. Bethany has prevailed in three of its last four matchups with Westminster.

Junior guard Drew Weir (Salem, Ohio, Salem) finished with 25 points on 9-of-16 shooting. He has six 20-point games this season and has gone for 20 or more points in five of Westminster's last six games. Freshman guard Trevor Siefke (Lisbon, Ohio, David Anderson), making his second-straight start, finished with 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting. He has scored in double figure in three of the last four. Junior guard Jaxon Hendershott (Salem, Ohio, West Branch) added 14 points, finishing 5-of-13 from the floor and 4-of-10 from three-point range. Sophomore guard Brady DePietro (Boardman, Ohio, Boardman) totaled 11 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Jess Roller finished with 23 points and eight rebounds in 21 reserve minutes to pace Bethany. Cole Dailey added 20 points, nine rebounds, four assists and four steals. Jaydis Kennedy and Ben Guffey had 12 apiece while TJ Jenkins finished with 10 rebounds, including five offensive.

Dailey scored 17 first half points to help Bethany go into the break up one, 47-46. The Bison were 10-of-12 from the free throw line in the opening half. Westminster shot 67.9 percent (19-28) from the floor and hit five of its 10 three-point tries but went just 3-of-6 from the charity stripe.

Bethany led wire-to-wire in the second half. A 9-0 Westminster run late in the half cut the Bison lead to four, 82-78, before a Roller three-pointer with just over three minutes left stretched the lead back to double digits.

Westminster finished the game shooting 50.8 percent (31-61) from the floor but went just 13-of-24 (.542) from the free throw line. Bethany shot at a 48.4 percent clip (30-62) and hit 21 of its 29 attempted free throws (.724). The Bison got a strong performance from its bench, outscoring the Titans' reserves 36-15.
