McClain finishes 3rd in 1650 to pace Westminster at Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio--Junior Maddy McClain (Elizabeth, Pa., Elizabeth Forward) registered a third-place finish in the 1650 Saturday to wrap up Westminster's run at the Wooster Invitational. 

The three-day event was inside the YMCA of Wooster's Chris Mathew Aquatics Center. Friday and Saturday's diving events were held at Wooster's Timken Natatorium. 

Wooster won the 10-team event with 1,628.50 points. Westminster was seventh, finishing with 563 points. 

McClain finished in 18 minutes, 07.19 seconds, now the top time in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) this season. The effort ranks ninth on the College's top times list. McClain accumulated 79 points over the three-day span. Freshman Sarah Vitale (Allison Park, Pa., Shaler) was 24th in the 1650 (21:24.64). 

Freshman Olivia Schrock (Greensburg, Pa., Hempfield) finished 14th overall and sixth in the 'B' final of the 200 back (2:20.71) while freshman Rachel Rospierski (Erie, Pa., Fairview) was 19th overall and third in the 'C' final of the event (2:24.10). Freshman Brianna Reinhart (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Allegheny) was 21st overall and fifth in the 'C' final of the 100 free (57.79). 

Four swimmers qualified for the three-heat final of the 200 fly. Freshman Nina Nappo (Columbiana, Ohio, Columbiana) and junior Annabelle Turner (Butler, Pa., Butler) were 11th and 12th overall. Nappo was third in the second heat (2:28.26) while Turner was fourth (2:32.62). Sophomore Isabella Summers (Hubbard, Ohio, Hubbard) finished 16th overall and eighth in the second heat (2:43.49). Freshman Sophia Greene (Cabot, Pa., Knoch) was 17th overall and finished first in the 'C' final (2:55.37). 

The Titans' 400 free 'A' relay finished in 12th place (3:49.36). Relay members were Rospierski, Reinhart, Nappo and McClain. The 'B' relay was 15th (4:06.56). The relay included Schrock, freshman Emma Greene (Darlington, Pa., Blackhawk), freshman Madison Alessio (Elizabeth, Pa., Elizabeth Forward) and sophomore Daphne Gindlesperger (McKean, Pa., General McLane).

Up next:
Westminster will host its annual Rich Sentner Diving Invitational on Friday, Jan. 16. Events will begin at 6 p.m. On Saturday, Jan. 24 Westminster will welcome Franciscan and Mount Union. The tri-meet is scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m.
