McClain 3rd in 400 IM at Wooster Friday night

WOOSTER, Ohio--Junior Maddy McClain (Elizabeth, Pa., Elizabeth Forward) highlighted Friday's evening session at the Wooster Invitational for the Westminster College women's swimming and diving program, scoring a third-place finish in the 400 IM. 

The three-day event is being held inside the YMCA of Wooster's Chris Mathew Aquatics Center. Friday and Saturday's diving events are being contested at Wooster's Timken Natatorium. 

Through 13 scored events, Wooster leads the 10-team field with 928.50 points. Westminster sits in sixth place with 405 points.

The Titans' 200 medley 'A' relay opened the evening session Friday with a 13th-place finish, registering a time of 1 minute, 58.70 seconds. Members of the relay were freshmen Olivia Schrock (Greensburg, Pa., Hempfield) and Nina Nappo (Columbiana, Ohio, Columbiana), McClain and freshman Rachel Rospierski (Erie, Pa., Fairview)

Five Titans advanced to the three-heat finals of the 400 IM, led by McClain's 4 minute, 49.52 second finish. Nappo was eighth (5:07.62) in the championship final. Sophomore Avery O'Sullivan (Washington, Pa., Trinity) and freshman Sarah Vitale (Allison Park, Pa., Shaler) competed in the 'B' final, with O'Sullivan finishing 14th overall and sixth in the second heat (5:22.24) and Vitale finishing 16th overall and eighth in the heat (5:33.55). Freshman Sophia Greene (Cabot, Pa., Knoch), swimming in the 'C' final, was 19th overall and third in the opening heat (5:46.66). 

Freshman Brianna Reinhart (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Allegheny) and sophomores Annabelle Turner (Butler, Pa., Butler) and Isabella Summers (Hubbard, Ohio, Hubbard) swam in the 'C' final of the 100 fly. Reinhart was 17th overall and won the third heat with a time of 1:03.99. Turner was 20th overall and fourth in the heat (1:08.37) and Summers finished 23rd overall and seventh in the heat (1:11.93).

Sophomore Emily Yurko (Boardman, Ohio, Boardman) was 22nd overall and sixth in the 'C' final of the 100 breast (1:30.97). 

Rospierski and Schrock both advanced to the three-heat finals of the 100 back, with Rospierski finishing 10th overall and second in the 'B' final (1:03.51) and Schrock finishing 21st overall and fifth in the 'C' final (1:05.63). 

Westminster's 800 free 'A' relay, made up of McClain, Turner, Reinhart and Nappo, wrapped up the second night with an eighth-place finish (8:33.70). The 800 free 'B' relay was 14th (9:33.20). The 'B' relay members were Vitale, freshman Emma Greene (Darlington, Pa., Blackhawk), Sophia Greene and sophomore Daphne Gindlesperger (McKean, Pa., General McLane)

Up next:
Saturday's preliminary events are scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m., with the non-championship final heats of the 1650 starting at 1 p.m. Women's 3-meter diving is scheduled for 2 p.m. The finals are scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
