Four reach double figures, Westminster wins at Alma

ALMA, Mich.--Senior Drew Weir (Salem, Ohio, Salem) scored 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting to lead four players in double figures as Westminster rolled to a 100-64 victory over Alma on Wednesday afternoon. 

Eighteen players saw action Wednesday, helping Westminster (5-3) reach 100 points for the second time this season. The Titans shot 14-of-30 (.467) from the three-point line and made a season-high 40 field goals.

Weir added six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Senior Trey DePietro (Boardman, Ohio, Boardman) and freshman Nick Ryan (Warren, Ohio, John F. Kennedy) added 14 points apiece while senior Mick Hergenrother (Canfield, Ohio, Cardinal Mooney) finished with 13. Ryan and Hergenrother hit three three-pointers each. Graduate student DJ Harrell (Cleveland, Ohio, East Technical) totaled nine points and seven assists.


Korbin Heitzman led Alma (2-7) with 21 points and eight boards.

Westminster shot 64.7 percent (22-34) from the floor in the first half, including a 50 percent clip (7-14) from three-point range, to open up a 54-32 lead heading into the halftime break. An 11-0 scoring run, capped by a Harrell driving layup with 9:39 remaining, stretched the Titans' lead to 20 (33-13). Weir had 14 first half points. 

The Titans' second half lead swelled to as many as 41 (98-57). Ryan scored eight of his 13 in the second half. 

Up next:
Westminster will return to the court Monday-Tuesday, Dec. 29-30 at Otterbein's Smokey Ballenger Classic. Admission to the event is by donations of canned goods or cash. The Titans open with Albion Dec. 29 at 7 p.m. before taking on the host Cardinals at 2 p.m. on Dec. 30.
