ROCHESTER, N.Y.--Junior Grace Cano's (Greenville, Pa., Greenville) first double-double of the year helped Westminster post a 55-44 victory over SUNY Potsdam in the consolation game of Nazareth's Sandy DeWolf McCormack Holiday Tournament Sunday afternoon.
Cano finished with 16 points and a career-high 15 rebounds, going 7-of-12 from the floor and 2-of-4 from the free throw line. Sunday was the third double-double of her career.
Sophomore Katie Maryo (Cleveland, Ohio, Magnificat) added 11 points, finishing 3-of-5 from three-point range and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe. Her 21 made three-pointers this season rank third in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC). Freshman Jenna Zuelch (Aurora, Ohio, Aurora) chipped in with eight points on 4-of-5 shooting. She also registered five rebounds. Junior Kennedy Arison (Medina, Ohio, Akron Hoban) totaled seven points, two rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Lucie Scarpine led Potsdam (2-6) with 12 points and four rebounds.
Maryo connected on a pair of three-pointers in the opening period, helping Westminster take a 14-11 lead into the second. The Titans managed to stretch their second quarter lead to as many as 14, 27-13, before Potsdam closed out the final three minutes with a 10-2 run to trim Westminster's lead to six, 29-23, going into the break. Maryo went three-of-four from three-point range in the first half for nine points. Cano had six points and nine rebounds while Zuelch posted six points and three boards.
Westminster (4-5) outscored Potsdam 20-13 in the third and led 49-36 heading into the fourth period. Arison scored five of her seven in the third. Lillian Hoyt's three-pointer with just over three remaining in the fourth cut the Titans' lead to nine, 51-42, before a pair of Cano layups closed out the scoring.
The Titans made 15 of their season-high 20 free throw attempts Sunday and finished with a 47-34 advantage on the boards.
