Westminster falls at Manchester in season opener

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind.--The Westminster College women's basketball program suffered an 89-49 loss at Manchester in the Teammates For Life Tipoff Tournament Saturday evening at the Stauffer-Wolfe Arena. 

Junior Grace Cano (Greenville, Pa., Greenville) and freshman Ryen Smith (Fostoria, Ohio, Old Fort) each had eight points. Cano went 4-of-7 from the field with four rebounds while Smith was 3-of-6 with three rebounds and a block. Junior Kennedy Arison (Medina, Ohio, Akron Hoban) finished with seven points and added one rebound, one assist and two steals. Sophomore Katie Maryo (Cleveland, Ohio, Magnificat) and freshman Caitlin Kreitzer (Wampum, Pa., Lincoln) each had six points. 

Abigail Rosenkrans led Manchester with 29 points. Hailee Kline added 22. 

The Westminster bench scored 24 of its 49 points Saturday. Manchester had a 30-24 edge in points in the paint. Westminster out rebounded Manchester, 37-35.

Up next:
Westminster will take on Kalamazoo in Sunday's consolation game. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
