Westminster wins in Latrobe

LATROBE, Pa.--Freshman Quentin Goode (Aliquippa, Pa., Aliquippa) threw for 240 yards and four touchdowns and sophomore Brite Cannon (Parkland, Fla., Monarch) caught six passes for 113 yards and three scores in Saturday's 57-14 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory against Saint Vincent at Chuck Noll Field.

Westminster wrapped up its regular season slate with a 7-3 overall record and a 6-2 mark in the PAC. Saturday was the third-straight game the Titans reached 50 points.

Westminster led 7-0 after the first, with senior Demere White (Manalapan, N.J., DePaul Catholic) capping an 11-play, 48-yard drive with a 1-yard rushing score with 6:21 left in the quarter.

The Titans exploded for 34 second quarter points. It was the second-straight game posting 34 points in a single quarter: the Titans scored 34 in the opening quarter of last week's win over Hiram. Freshman Lawrence Grayson (Washington, D.C., Paul Laurence Dunbar) snagged a 4-yard touchdown from Goode with 14:14 to go in the second before junior Clayton Cannon's (Parkland, Fla., Marjory Stoneman Douglas) 7-yard rushing score with just over 10 minutes left in the half stretched Westminster's lead to 21-0. It was Clayton Cannon's 11th rushing score this season.

Brite Cannon scored on a 65-yard pass from Goode with just over eight minutes left in the first half before senior Jean Garry Joseph (North Miami, Fla., Ebenezer Christian) intercepted Jake Phillips and returned it 28 yards for a score with just over six to play in the second. The interception was Joseph's third of his career, and second returned for a score. Brite Cannon closed out the first half scoring on a 6-yard touchdown from Goode with 37 seconds remaining to help Westminster establish a 41-0 lead at the break. It was his 10th touchdown catch of the year, and fifth to go for 50 or more yards.

Brite Cannon's third touchdown of the game came less than three minutes in the third quarter. Junior Craig Sonson Jr.'s (Pittsburgh, Pa., Montour) 44-yard punt was fumbled by Keegan O'Brien and recovered by freshman Hayden Rearick (New Bethlehem, Pa., Redbank Valley), leading to a 21-yard scoring strike from Goode to Brite Cannon. Saturday was his second three-touchdown game of the season: he had three in a win over Thiel on Oct. 18. It was also his fifth game of the season with 100 or more receiving yards.

Saint Vincent scored on back-to-back possessions to close the third quarter and open the fourth to cut the Westminster lead to 47-14. Sophomore Andrew Caranna (Copley, Ohio, Revere) drilled a 26-yard field goal with 2:43 left before senior Ben White (Warren, Pa., Warren) hauled in an 11-yard touchdown from senior Jake Miller (Pittsburgh, Pa., McKeesport) with just under two minutes remaining. The field goal was Caranna's PAC-leading seventh this year. The touchdown reception was the first of White's career. It was also Miller's first career passing touchdown.

Goode completed 22-of-32 passes. His four touchdown passes tied his career high: he finished with four touchdowns against Thiel. Grayson caught a career-high six passes for 45 yards. His second quarter touchdown was his second this season. Sonson Jr. punted five times, averaging 40.8 yards per punt. He dropped three inside Saint Vincent's 20-yard line.

Senior Mason Paljich (New Franklin, Ohio, Manchester) finished with six stops (3 solo). Graduate student Walt Phillips (Pembroke Pines, Fla., Champagnat Catholic) and senior Dylan Sleva (McDonald, Pa., Moon) had five tackles each. Freshman Gaven Nagy (North Lima, Ohio, South Range) intercepted Phillips in the second quarter. It was his first this season.

Westminster finished with 379 yards of total offense. It was the seventh time this year the defense held an opponent to 210 or fewer total yards (208).
