Westminster falls at home to Albion

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College men's basketball team suffered a 90-60 loss to visiting Albion to open the 34th annual Buzz Ridl Classic Friday night on Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium. 

Established in 1991, the Buzz Ridl Classic was created to honor, promote and preserve the indelible legacy and impact on the sport of basketball by former Westminster coach and administrator, Charles "Buzz" Ridl.

Senior DJ Harrell (Cleveland, Ohio, East Technical) and freshman Lucas Stanley (New Castle, Pa., Union) had 12 points each for Westminster (1-1). Senior Alex Rothwell (New Middletown, Ohio, Springfield Local) added 10 points and five rebounds. Senior Drew Weir (Salem, Ohio, Salem) finished with seven points and five boards. 

Albion (3-0) had five finish in double figures. Michael Umeh posted a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double. He finished 7-of-9 from the field and was 3-of-4 from the free throw line. 

The Britons shot 58.6 percent (17-29) from the floor in the first half and used an early 14-0 run to take a 42-21 lead into the break. Umeh had seven points and seven rebounds in the first half. Kurtis Rhodes scored 12 first half points. Harrell and Stanley had six each in the opening half. 

Albion stretched its lead in the second half to 33, 63-30, with just under 12 minutes to go. 

Albion shot 55.7 percent (34-61) from the field. The Britons outrebounded the Titans, 45-32, and outscored Westminster in the paint, 50-28.

Westminster will take on Penn State Shenengo (1-2) Saturday at 3 p.m.
