Liburdi medalist at Grove City

Westminster claims team title

GROVE CITY, Pa.--Westminster College sophomore Ava Liburdi (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) claimed medalist at the Grove City Fall Invitational Monday afternoon.

This is Liburdi's first collegiate individual title. She topped the 65-player leaderboard with a one-under 71. Liburdi finished her round with six birdies.

The 10-team event was held at the Grove City Country Club. Westminster won with a team score of 323. Seton Hill finished second (327) and Clarion was third (340).

Junior Katie Rose Rankin (Sewickley, Pa., North Allegheny) tied for ninth with a score of 83 while senior Alyssa Rapp (Poland, Ohio, Cardinal Mooney) tied for 11th with an 84. Senior Olivia Kana (North Huntingdon, Pa., Greensburg Central Catholic) tied for 13th with an 85 and freshman CeCe Morgan (Fairview, Pa., Cathedral Prep) finished in a three-way tie for 31st (95).

Freshman Paige Ponteous (Butler, Pa., Butler), graduate student Gianna Effinite (West Middlesex, Pa., West Middlesex) and freshmen Brooke Hart (Meadville, Pa., Meadville) and Madey Myers (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) competed as individuals. Ponteous finished in a three-way tie for 23rd (90) while Effinite and Hart finished in a three-way tie for 27th (92). Myers finished in a five-way tie for 36th (97).

Up next:
Westminster will compete in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships next Monday and Tuesday. The fall championship rounds, hosted by the Avalon Golf and Country Club, are being held at the Squaw Creek Golf Club.
