Westminster finishes as runner-up at John Carroll

WILLOUGHBY HILLS, Ohio--Westminster College finished as runner-up at John Carroll's Fall Invitational Sunday.

The 10-team, 36-hole event was played at the Manakiki Golf Course. Wittenberg won the team title with a team total of 661, finishing with a second round 325 after its 336 on Saturday. Westminster had a team score of 669 and carried a six-stroke lead into the final round after Saturday's 330. Shenandoah was third with a 685 (347-338). 

John Carroll's Julia Gulla was the medalist with a two-round score of 151, following up Saturday's 79 with an even-par 72 on Sunday. 

Junior Katie Rose Rankin (Sewickley, Pa., North Allegheny) tied for second place with Wittenberg's Addie Yarbrough, as both players fired a 156. Rankin, who had seven birdies during Saturday's opening round, was leading the 56-player field with a three-over 75. She shot an 81 on Sunday. Yarbrough rallied from her opening-round 81 with a 75 on Sunday.

Sophomore Ava Liburdi (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) tied for eighth place with a 167, carding an opening-round 79 and an 88 on Sunday. Senior Alyssa Rapp (Poland, Ohio, Cardinal Mooney) posted a 174 to tie for 17th place, following up Saturday's 89 with a second round 85. Senior Olivia Kana (North Huntingdon, Pa., Greensburg Central Catholic) tied for 29th with a 180, registering an 87 Saturday and a 93 Sunday. Freshman CeCe Morgan (Fairview, Pa., Cathedral Prep) battled back from her opening-round 98, which had her tied for 43rd, with an 85 on Sunday to finish 32nd (183). 

Freshmen Paige Ponteous (Butler, Pa., Butler), Madey Myers (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) and Brooke Hart (Meadville, Pa., Meadville) competed as individuals. Ponteous was 35th with a 185 (93-92), Myers tied for 41st with a 193 (97-96) and Hart tied for 43rd with a 195 (97-98).

Up next:
Westminster will participate in Monday's Grove City Fall Invitational, which will be held at the Grove City Country Club. The round is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
