Westminster falls at Thiel, 3-2

GREENVILLE, Pa.--The Westminster College men's soccer team dropped a 3-2 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) decision at Thiel Wednesday night inside Alumni Stadium at Stoeber Field. 

Westminster fell to 1-11-4 overall and 1-5-3 in the league. 

Thiel (4-11-1, 1-7-1 PAC) struck early, jumping out to a 2-0 lead on a Giovanni Rossi Jr. goal in the 18th minute and an Alex Ciambella score in the 34th minute. Mitchell Strauss assisted the Ciambella goal. 

Westminster capitalized on a pair of opportunities early in the second half with freshman Eli Wastchak (Pittsburgh, Pa., Plum) netting back-to-back goals to even the match at 2-all, scoring in the 54th minute and again in the 59th minute. The goals were Wastchak's first and second of his collegiate career. 

Thiel regained the lead in the 66th minute when Strauss found the back of the net, which ultimately proved to be the game-winner. It was his second game-winner this season. 

Senior Noah Wolford (Butler, Pa., Butler) made three saves. 

The Titans outshot the Tomcats 13-10 in the match and finished with a 9-5 edge in shots on goal. Thiel earned eight corner kicks to Westminster's one.

Westminster will celebrate its Senior Recognition Day Saturday when it hosts Bethany (3-9-3, 2-6-1 PAC) at the UPMC Sports Complex. Senior Day events will begin at 4 p.m., with the match scheduled to get underway at 4:15 p.m.
