Titans hold top spot after PAC Championships fall rounds

VIENNA, Ohio--Westminster College turned in a 331 on Tuesday after its opening-round 337 at the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Women's Golf Championships and hold a 15-stroke lead heading into April's two spring championship rounds.

The PAC's 36-hole fall event was hosted by the Avalon Golf & Country Club in Warren, Ohio. The women completed two rounds at Avalon at Squaw Creek in Vienna.

Westminster, winners of seven-straight PAC titles, leads the nine-team championship field with a two-round score of 668. W&J will enter the spring rounds 15 strokes back after its two-day total of 683 (341-342).

Sophomore Ava Liburdi (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) earned fall medalist honors with a 160, firing back-to-back eight-over 80's on Monday and Tuesday.

Junior Katie Rose Rankin (Sewickley, Pa., North Allegheny) sits in second place with a two-round score of 161. She followed up Monday's 84 with a five-over 77 on Tuesday. Her 77 was the low round of the fall championships. Senior Olivia Kana (North Huntingdon, Pa., Greensburg Central Catholic) is eighth with a 172 (84-88) while senior Alyssa Rapp (Poland, Ohio, Cardinal Mooney) is 11th with a 175 (89-86). Freshman CeCe Morgan (Fairview, Pa., Cathedral Prep) is tied for 18th with a 185 (92-93).

The PAC Championships feature a 72-hole stroke play event, beginning with 36 holes this fall and another 36 holes played Friday-Saturday, April 25-26 at Mill Creek Metroparks and the Mill Creek Golf Course in Boardman, Ohio. The women will play two rounds on the North Course in April.

The combined 72-hole team totals determine PAC team champion and winner of the league's automatic-qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III Championships, which are scheduled for May 19-22 at Desert Willow Golf Resort in Palm Desert, Calif.
